Costa Crociere and the Port Authority of Corfu participated in a counter-terrorism exercise with the Costa Magica on September 7.
The cruise ship worked directly with the port and local authorities to suppress the “threat,” according to a prepared statement.
The security exercise featured the staff of Corfu Port Authority S.A., the personnel of shops and agencies within the cruise terminal, along with the security staff at the port, the Greek Coast Guard, police, fire, ambulance and many more – including the entire crew onboard the Magica (960) and even tug boats in the port.
During the security exercise the port’s emergency plan was activated, which even went as far as sending unmanned aerial vehicles up to take real-time photos and videos to send back to an incident command center.
The Port declared the exercise successful. On hand were representatives from 12 other Greek ports, who happened to be participating in the Corfu Cruise School at the time.
