Strong July for St. Petersburg

The busiest month of the cruise season for St. Petersburg, Russia, is in the books, with over 150 calls and 110,000 passengers, including a number of days that had more than 10,000 passengers in the Russian city, according to the port.

The Grand Princess made its inaugural call in the port, along with the Clipper Odyssey.

The science research ship Akademik Fedorov spent most of the month in one of the passenger ship berths, going over research from a 100-day voyage to the Antarctic.

A new security system debuted in the port, too. New regulations passed in January led the port to the new system, which can recognize car license plate numbers.

St. Petersburg is the only port in Russia that complies with the new transport security regulations.
