At a recent media conference held last Monday January 23, 2012, it was announced that world renowned developer and investor of the Port Louis project Mr. Peter De Savary will collaborate with local contractor, Dr. Anslem La Touche, to construct a $65 million US dollar tourism project in St. George’s, Grenada, on the former site of the Islander Hotel. The project involves the rebuilding of the said hotel and the construction of a number of state of the art luxury villas and suites with swimming pools overlooking the sea. Speaking of the design, for the 5,000 square feet of land, Mr. De Savary indicated that “it will comprise of 45 to 50 modern-day state-of-the-art suites with a touch of the past.” He pointed out that “upon completion, among the main attractions of the site would be glass elevators from the top of the mountain descending down to the sea. They would be supported by 22 penthouses – 11 on each side with a touch of the famous Amalfi course of Italy.” According to the contractor, Dr. La Touche, the project will start later this year and is expected to conclude within 12 months. During construction, extensive marketing of the Port Louis project is expected to garner interest from businesses desirous of purchasing luxury houses. The announcement of the imminent start of this project has attracted favorable comments regarding the positive impact it will have on creating employment opportunities in Grenada. |
