Cruise West (, the global leader in small-ship exploration voyages and the largest American-owned cruise line, offers a Stowaway Program that provides guests with flexibility the opportunity to travel on short notice and receive a savings of 25 percent on the cruise-only brochure rate. This program is currently available on spring departures of Japan, Mexico’s Sea of Cortés, Columbia & Snake Rivers, British Columbia and Costa Rica & Panama itineraries.

“Our Stowaway program is particularly attractive in today’s challenging economy and is tailored to a unique set of guests,” said Dietmar R. Wertanzl, president and chief executive officer, Cruise West. “The savings are for example, on our 11-night Hidden Treasures of Japan cruise is $3,622 per cabin, double occupancy (Classic Cabin), and up to $1,777 per cabin (based on Category AAA) on a Baja Whales & Wildlife cruise.”

The Stowaway Program is a straightforward process. The traveler may request to cruise on a specific itinerary and cabin category within a 30-day window. At the time of the request a $700 per person deposit is required. At least 30 days before departure, Cruise West will offer to confirm the guest(s) on a specific departure within that requested 30-day travel window. If the guest cannot be accommodated, the full deposit will be refunded. If the guest declines the offered departure date, the deposit amount may be applied to a future cruise or cruise-tour within 24 months. The deposit is also transferable, but is non-refundable.
