The story in the riverboat
market is one of growth
heading into 2026.

here are new riverboats, a slowly extend-
ing season, and more capacity as the North
TAmerican source market continues to drive
the growth of the market.

LINDBLAD
New, big entrants will dominate the headlines in
2026 and 2027 and may lead to a domino effect.
First is Lindblad Expeditions, which will launch
service in 2026 in Europe on a charter deal with Tran-
scend Cruises with one vessel.
The company with what is believed to be the high-
est per diems in the ocean cruise business is now head-
ing to the rivers of Europe. It brings new enthusiasm
and a world-class operational footprint backed up by a
large past guest list of cruisers that have experienced
the Lindblad product in far-flung destinations: the
Galapagos, Antarctica, the Arctic and elsewhere. In
addition, Lindblad has been busy buying up smaller
land-based tour operators, which are set to provide
another source of potential guests and crossover tour
opportunities.
Transcend is a startup charter-only river cruise
company that is building two new 120-guest, 135-me-
ter-long vessels, the Transcend Connect and the Tran-
scend Evolve.
Each ship will have five venues that can accommo-
date all guests, including a two-story amphitheater for
group programs and expert-led presentations, concerts
and other performances.
Lindblad said the two companies are jointly de-
veloping itineraries “crafted to provide curious trav-
elers the opportunity to embark on journeys of deep
discovery and venture closer, deeper and farther into
the river-side cities, town and villages.”
Each voyage will be staffed by one of Lindblad’s
veteran expedition leaders, field staff and at least one
National Geographic expert.
The European aspect will add to the company’s
A Viking river product range that already includes the Peruvian
longship on
the Seine Amazon, the Nile, and the Columbia and Snake Rivers
River in the Northwest.
