The number one port in Asia by passenger volume is Shanghai, coming off 2.8 million passengers in 2016 and expecting just short of 3 million this year.
Port expansion will lead to the ability to berth four megaships concurrently by the end of 2018.
The port, according to a spokesperson, also has an aggressive five-year plan to have up to 30 ships regularly homeport in Shanghai with a goal of 1,000 calls annually and up to six million cruise passengers.
This year Shanghai Wusongkou International Cruise Terminal is expecting 483 calls, including 475 turnarounds.
