The Lloyd’s Register Group announces senior Marine management appointments – key technical, client service and environmental roles in the senior management team
A number of new roles and areas of responsibility have been created, with several senior figures re-locating to London to take up the posts within an enhanced senior management team to lead the Marine business.
The changes streamline reporting lines within Marine, with all the key roles reporting direct to Tom Boardley, Lloyd’s Register’s Marine Director, who joined the company from CMA CGM in April 2009.
Tim Kent, currently Marine Strategy and Planning Director, will assume the role of Technical Director Designate, commencing in January next year. He will replace Vaughan Pomeroy who is retiring in June 2010 after more than 29 years at Lloyds Register. Tim will work closely with Vaughan during the remainder of his tenure, while retaining leadership of the Marine Product Development Programme.
John Curley, recently moved from Dubai where he was Lloyd’s Register EMEA’s Senior Vice President, Marine, for Middle East and Africa, will take on a new and enhanced role as Head of Global Marine Sales and Marketing. The new role will allow us to increase and better focus activity in improving client service. John will be supported by a new Marine Marketing Manager post to be held by Hector Sewell who was in Asia where he was Vice-President Marine Business Development for China and Korea.
Chris Walters continues in his role as Marine Operations Director. Chris is responsible for global delivery of: ship classification, managed by Iain Wilson; worldwide plan approval activity managed by Robert Smart, the recently appointed Global Design Support Manager; and Lloyd’s Register’s Marine Consultancy Services (MCS). Chris is supported by the key regional marine manager roles created in January: Apostolos Poulovassilis in EMEA; Tim Protheroe in Americas, and Roy Thomson in Asia.
Anne-Marie Warris, who joined the Marine business from LRQA in July 2009 as Marine Environmental Advisor, will continue to work with marine stakeholders in addressing environmental matters. She is also involved with other industry forums liaising closely between them and our Marine business. Konstantin Petrov succeeds Robert Smart as External Affairs Manager. Marine Communications Manager Nicholas Brown and Julia Haines-Daniels, Marine Business HR Manager, report to Tom Boardley.
A further new position, Marine Finance Director, has been filled by Simon Nice. His appointment completes the creation of a senior financial management team for the Lloyds Register Group, representing region and business divisions.
Tom Boardley said: “These changes ensure that we have a balanced management team to lead the Marine business through what is bound to be a difficult period, as new ship building activity returns to more ‘normal’ levels, after the spike of activity over the past two to three years, and we adjust our strategy and organisation accordingly. The team will also be actively supporting Group objectives and co-operating with other Lloyds Register Group businesses. Particularly important is working with our Energy stream on offshore projects.”
