New Facility In Yokohama Welcomes Diamond Princess

The newly-open Shinko Pier in Yokohama has welcomed its first cruise call as the Diamond Princess docked on Nov. 4.

“All operations including CIQ procedure both disembarkation and embarkation process went very smoothly,” the port said, in a prepared statement.

The five-story terminal building houses not only a cruise terminal but 25 shops and a luxury hotel, Intercontinental Yokohama Pier8. The Shinko Pier is the first cruise terminal in Japan that has a commercial area and a hotel inside, the port said.

The berth is 340 meters in length with a 9.5 meter water depth, able to accomodate large ships.
