Kleven Hit By Non-Paying Customer and Downturn in Offshore

The Kleven shipyard group, which is building two expedition vessels for Hurtigruten, is struggling financially, while seeking new investors, according to Teknisk Ukeblad (TU).

A multi-purpose ship built for Malaysian owners that did not meet their payment obligations combined with the downturn in the offshore industry have impacted Norway-based Kleven negatively.

TU reported that while Hurtigruten has expressed confidence that its two vessels will be delivered in accordance with the building contract, it would not comment on whether it would step in as an investor in the Kleven group.
