Acapulco is set to welcome XTASEA, an over-water zip line more than a mile long that will let riders reach speeds of up to 75 mph at an altitude of 328 feet. Slated to open in 2017, the zip line will cross Puerto Marquez Bay, making it the “largest over-water adrenaline rush in the world.”

“XTASEA promises to be one of Acapulco’s main tourist attractions and we have great hopes that it will be a success for the destination,” said Pedro Haces, president of the Acapulco Destination Marketing Office. “This over-water zip line forms part of the recently announced billion-dollar investment aimed at enhancing the destination’s tourism offerings. We expect visitors from all over the world to come and experience this once in a lifetime adventure.”

XTASEA is one of 20 projects under the socalled Master Plan for Acapulco by Grupo Autofin, a major Mexican investment company. Costing an estimated $2 million (USD), the ride will be officially presented during Tianguis Turistico, Mexico’s largest travel trade event, in March 2017.

Grupo Autofin’s Master Plan will also include renovations of the Pierre Mundo Imperial and Princess Mundo Imperial hotels, as well as the following new developments: Spa Tlalli, Turtle Dunes Golf Clubhouse, Gourmet Beach, Hotel Prince by Mundo Imperial, Hotel Marqués Boutique, Residences and Luxury Condominiums, Hotel Boutique Only You, Diamante Retirement Homes, Princess Medical Center, Premium Shopping Center, an eco-amusement park called Aventura Guerrero, a new tennis stadium, Princess University and security facilities. These projects are scheduled to be completed between 2017 and 2022 and are expected to generate more than 10,000 new jobs, according to the Destination Marketing Office.

Acapulco will also inaugurate a new state-of-the-art airport terminal, a $30 million investment from Grupo Aeroportuario Centro Norte (OMA), which will increase airport capacity by another 1.3 million passengers a year upon completion in 2018, 30 percent more than the current building.
