Engine Room Fire on Carnival Triumph

The Carnival Triumph is on emergency power following an engine room fire aboard the 101,509-ton ship.

Local reports said the ship suffered an engine room fire early Sunday while 150 miles off the coast of the Yucatan Peninsula with 3,143 guests onboard.

The ship is said to be on emergency power without propulsion, but Cruise Industry News could not confirm these reports.

The fire, however, was contained and has been put out with no injuries, according to local media.

The ship is due to sail from Galveston, Texas, tomorrow, February 11, 2013, and Carnival has contacted guests as the voyage may not take place or may be shortened.
