Coast Guard Closes Port in New York

The United States Coast Guard has closed the Port of New York, as of 6pm on October 28, with Hurricane Sandy expected to make landfall on Monday somewhere on the East Coast, creating a number of constantly-changing itinerary headaches for cruise lines.

The Coast Guard did not say when the port would reopen, however, the arrival of the Norwegian Gem (scheduled for October 29) is now delayed until further notice with the ship staying at sea.

In a related move, Norwegian Cruise Line cancelled a call at Portland, Maine, for October, 30, instead sending the Norwegian Dawn to Halifax on October 29.
