Scenic Announces New 16,500-ton Cruise Ship

Riverboat operator Scenic is getting into the cruise space, announcing a new 16,500-ton, 228-passenger ocean-going cruise ship to start service in 2018.

The ship will be called the Scenic Eclipse as the Australian company promises to take ocean cruising to a “new level in terms of technology, size and luxury.”

The brand promises luxury will meet discovery, with an overview video showing five-star level spaces with the ship operating in polar regions. The double-hull will feature 1A-super ice class.

The company said the ship has been three-years in the planning, and will be built in Croatia.

Features include two small helicopters aboard and a seven-passenger mini submarine.
