Ordered in 2007, the Disney Dream entered service for Disney Cruise Line on January 26, 2011.

Built in Germany by the Meyer Werft shipyard, she became the first Disney newbuild in ten years. Until her, the last ship built for DCL was the Disney Wonder, which debuted in 1999.

The Disney Dream was christened on January 19, 2011, by the actress and singer Jennifer Hudson, in Port Canaveral, Florida. It is part of the Dream-class, and has only one sister ship, the Disney Fantasy.
