Thomson Spirit

Thomson Spirit

The Thomson Sprit currently sails for Thomson Cruises but is owned by Louis Group (Celestyal Cruises), which charters the ship out on a long term basis. The vessel was originally built in France at a cost of $150 million, launching in 1982 for Holland America Line as the Nieuw Amsterdam.

After a 16-year service life with Holland America, the ship sailed briefly for American Classical Voyages as the MS Patriot. With that company going bankrupt, the ship was laid up. She eventually re-entered service with Louis Group who chartered the ship to Thomson.
