The Diamond Princess is the first Princess Cruises ship built in Asia. It is one of the three vessels that entered service for the cruise line in 2004.

A modified Grand-class ship, she was built by the Mitsubishi shipyard in Japan. The wife of the shipbuilder, Yoshiko Tsukuda served as the ship’s godmother, during the naming ceremony, held in Nagasaki, Japan.
