Seaport Planning Manager Anderton Promoted to New Role at Port Everglades

Port Everglades seaport planning expert David Anderton has been promoted to the newly created position of Assistant Director of Port Everglades, Strategic Planning and Development, Port Everglades Chief Executive & Port Director Steven Cernak announced recently.

“David’s diverse experience and background in planning, development, grants writing and administration and state/federal legislative processes make him the ideal choice for this new position as Port Everglades begins to implement its strategic expansion plans,” Cernak said.

In this position, Anderton will provide oversight and direction for the development and implementation of short- and long-range strategic plans including facilities planning, capital improvements programming and implementing Port Everglades’ 5-Year, $500 million Capital Improvements Program (CIP). He will also oversee capital grants and federal and state legislative efforts in coordination with Broward County’s Office of Intergovernmental Affairs and Professional Standards.

Anderton began working at Port Everglades in 2002 in the Seaport Engineering & Construction Division of the Broward County Public Works Department assisting with the development of the 5-Year CIP and providing technical planning assistance on tasks pertaining to project implementation. He was the lead contract administrator overseeing the development of Port Everglades’ 20-Year Vision/Master Plan, which was updated and approved by the Broward County Board of County Commissioners in March 2011.

Prior to his Port positions, Anderton held senior positions with the consulting firms Atkins Global (formerly Post, Buckley, Schuh and Jernigan), Craig A. Smith & Associates, and the City of West Palm Beach, FL. He was also a legislative assistant and campaign coordinator for Florida Attorney General Robert A. Butterworth. These positions provided an array of experience in transportation and land use planning as well as the legislative process.

Anderton holds a Bachelor’s Degree in both Political Science and History from Florida State University and a Master’s Degree in Urban and Regional Planning from Florida Atlantic University. He is registered with the American Institute of Certified Planners and is affiliated with the American Planning Association and the American Association of Port Authorities.
