The World Comes to Tampa

The Tampa Port Authority is pleased to announce that m/v The World—the largest private yacht in the world—sailed into port this morning, where it will remain at Cruise Terminal 3, for a three-day visit. The super yacht last visited the Port of Tampa during Super Bowl Weekend, in 2009.

Built in Norway and launched in 2002, the 43,188-ton globe trotter has a length overall of 644 feet, width of 96 feet and a draft of 22 feet. In addition, the ship features 12 decks, 165 residential units and a maximum speed of 18.5 knots. The resident-owned ship operates somewhat like a water-borne city, with management team, staff and an elected board of directors to carry out operations of the luxury community. A varied selection of residences ranges in prices in the low millions. However, most residences are also available for rent.

On board amenities include a library, full-sized tennis court, grocery store, casino and a variety of restaurants, from haute cuisine to international. Full-scale services such as concierge and dry cleaning maximize convenience to residents. Crew size on board the Bahamas-flagged ship is about 250. ResidenSea Ltd. is the Miramar, Fla.-based management company responsible for The World’s operations, marketing and administration.

Vessel agent services for The World will be provided by A.R. Savage and Son, and Ports America will provide vessel handling services.

“We are very pleased to welcome the residents and crew of The World back to Tampa and are very excited to see that they have chosen again to spend a few days enjoying our beautiful fall weather and local amenities,” Charles Klug, Tampa’s interim port director and CEO, said.
