RCL Q3 PPD: Ticket Net Down; Onboard Spend Up

Royal Caribbean Cruises (RCC) reported net income of $367.8 million, or $1.68 per share, on revenues of $2.2 billion for the third quarter ended Sept. 30, 2012, compared to net income of $399.0 million, or $1.82 per share, on revenues of $2.3 billion for the same period last year.

Net revenue was $1.69 billion this year, down slightly from $1.7 billion last year. Net revenue per passenger day showed a bigger discrepancy at $184.05 this year, down from $187.42 last year.

While net onboard revenue jumped to $46.18 from $43.87 per passenger day, net ticket revenue dropped to $137.87 from $143.55 last year.

Gross revenue per passenger day was $241.90 this year, compared to $250.87 last year, with gross ticket revenue at $177.64 compared to $187.37, and gross onboard spend at $64.26 compared to $63.50.

Total costs and expenses came in at $192.77 per passenger day for this year’s Q3, compared to $186.02 last year.

Operating income per passenger day was $49.13 this year, compared to $54.85 last year.

Net income was $39.96 per passenger day this year, compared to $43.11 last year.

Royal Caribbean’s best Q3 was in 2005, posting net income of $61.33 per passenger day
