Rock ‘N’ Roll Cruise, More Short Voyages for Athena

A themed rock’n’roll cruise around the south-west corner of Australia next April aboard the traditional liner, Athena, will be one of a record 12 short cruises Classic International Cruises will offer in Australia next summer.

The four-night Rock ‘N’ Roll cruise from Perth on April 2, 2013, will be one of 12 cruises of five nights or less that Athena will offer in Australia during the 2012/13 summer program – or 62 per cent of all her cruises next season. This is up from the six cruises of five nights or less (or 40 per cent of all cruises) that Athena offered in Australia last summer and the seven short cruises (or 53 per cent) that Athena offered here in the 2010/11 season.

Rock’n’roll fans will be able to bop until they drop on Athena’s, four-night, round-trip cruise from Perth on April 2, 2013, with the special trip featuring daily gigs by the ship’s band and also Brisbane-based classic rock band, The Deadliners, comprising four “50-something”, toe-tapping journalists-cum-musos who will play in the liner’s lounges and around the pool, with tunes from Buddy Holly, Chuck Berry, The Stray Cats, Jimmy Barnes, Jimmy Buffett, Crowded House and Peter Frampton amongst others.

The Rock‘n’roll cruise will be the third time The Deadliners have played aboard Athena in the past two years and are returning by popular demand.

The Deadliners will run music trivia quizzes during the cruise, which will also include free rock’n’roll dance classes for passengers so they can shake, rattle and roll around the spectacular WA coastline during visits to Albany and Bunbury.

Classic International Cruises Managing Director Grant Hunter said the increase in short cruises for Athena in Australia was designed to meet a growing market demand for quick breaks of between two and five nights. “We continue to offer longer voyages aboard Athena but for those who lead busy lives and can’t spare longer holidays, we are now ensuring there are lots of opportunities for people to enjoy a few relaxing days away at sea and one of those short cruises is this fun rock ‘n’ roll cruise which is sure to get all the passengers – and the crew – dancing,” Mr Hunter said.

Based in Perth and Adelaide every summer, Athena is a traditional, mid-sized ocean liner offering attentive, old-fashioned service, fine cuisine, first-rate entertainment and value-for-money fares in an intimate and relaxed atmosphere with a warm camaraderie amongst passengers. The onboard currency is Australian dollars.

The 600-passenger ship features traditional wooden deck chairs, pool, fitness centre and sauna, five bars and lounges, nightclub, showlounge, casino, library, boutiques, cinema and two restaurants.  All cabins on Athena offer a bath tub – a luxury only found in premium cabins on the world’s latest liners.

All-inclusive fares for the four-night Rock’n’Roll cruise from Perth on April 2, 2013, start at $795 per person, twin-share, with a third or fourth adult sharing the same cabin paying only $475 each. The surcharge for solo travellers on this cruise will be only 25 per cent in selected cabins.  Children under 18 sharing the same cabin with two adults can cruise for free, with $140 charged in taxes. Fares include all onboard meals and entertainment.
