On April 15, Marmaris Cruise Port welcomed two maiden calls at a time. In the early hours of the day, the Astor, which is chartered by German based Transocean Tours was the first ship to dock for her maiden call at Marmaris Cruise Port carrying 307 passengers and 246 crew members on board.
Following MS Astor’s arrival, MSC Melody passed the scenic strait of Marmaris to dock along side with her 935 passengers and 540 crew members on board. Both ships departed from Marmaris heading for the port of Limassol.
MSC Melody will continue calling at Marmaris during the 2012 season with her 11 day long Mediterranean itinerary which includes calls at Italy, Turkey, Cyprus, Israel and Greece. All MSC Melody calls at Marmaris for 2012 season has been diverted from Alexandria due to civil unrest in Egypt.
The two ships, MSC Melody and MS Astor, were welcomed in style by Turkish folk dancers in traditional costumes. Cruise guests were handed red carnations as they heard the beat of the drum and pipe music and many stayed to watch the dancers with tapping feet, some preffered to take some pictures. Passengers also had the chance to taste Turkish delights and were given gifts such as evil eye beads, postcards, bookmarks and magnets as memorabilia. Furthermore, both masters were presented with a commemorative plaque, made of a traditional Turkish tile; a handcrafted ceramic with Ottomon Gallion motives to mark their inaugural visits.
