Tasports Announces Cruise Terminal in Hobart

Tasports (Tasmanian Ports Corporation) has confirmed to Cruise Industry News Tasmania’s first cruise passenger terminal.

The facility, just announced, will be a dedicated cruise terminal at the Macquarie 2 wharf shed in Hobart.

The shed acts as a cruise transit facility at the moment.

Tasports will be developing Tasmania’s first cruise passenger terminal with construction planned to commence after the 2011/2012 cruise season.

“Cruise tourism in Australia is experiencing an upward trend and Tasmania is a strategic port location between Australia and New Zealand as well as for any domestic and round-the-world cruises. Hobart is considered a marquee port and the down-town location of the cruise berth is part of its attraction,” commented Karen Rees, segment marketing manager, Tasports.
