New Lifejacket Orders Help Cosalt Reach 100,000 Milestone

A run of new orders for Cosalt’s popular Premier 2010 lifejacket in the first quarter of 2011 takes the number of units supplied since the product’s launch two years ago to just over 100,000.  The milestone was reached last month when 2700 units were delivered to international shipbuilding group STX Europe in Rauma, Finland. The lifejackets will be used on P&O’s new super ferry ‘Spirit of France’, which is scheduled to begin operation later this year.

Other recent large orders include the supply of 8000 adult lifejackets to German shipyard Meyer Werft for the Solstice-class cruise ship ‘Celebrity Silhouette’ and 1200 Premier 2010’s to Seabourn to equip their new luxury yacht ‘Seabourn Quest’.  A further 3200 units were delivered to Carnival Australia as part of the refurbishment of the ‘Pacific Jewel’.

Cosalt’s ground-breaking Premier 2010 lifejacket was the first inherently buoyant lifejacket in the world to be approved to the more stringent SOLAS Maritime Safety Committee regulations (MSC20(80)) that came into force on 1st July 2010. The product was the result of a three-year research and development project that involved over 1000 hours of in-water testing and detailed discussions with leading cruise and ferry operators.

The Premier 2010 is available from Cosalt in three sizes – Adult, Child and Infant.  The Adult lifejacket offers 190N of buoyancy and has a patented design Neck System that can adjust to the wearer’s neck size so it can be worn by anyone from 43kg up to 140kg while still maintaining good face angles and mouth clearance above the water. The patented Reverse Angle Head Support holds the head at the optimum position for maximum in-water performance even if the wearer becomes unconscious. The lifejacket self rights in an average of 1.7s.

Cosalt’s first order for the Premier 2010 was from Royal Caribbean International cruise lines in April 2009 when the company was asked to supply over 9,500 lifejackets to each of the 220,000 ton mega cruise ships ‘Oasis of the Seas’ and her sister ship ‘Allure of the Seas’.  Given that the product had only just been launched, this was a major vote of confidence in Cosalt and its capability to supply a new lifejacket for such a large project. Now two years old, the Premier 2010 has proved a hit with cruise and ferry companies worldwide.

Said Pete Evans, Cosalt’s Commercial Manager, Cruise & Ferry: “We are thrilled that the Premier 2010 lifejacket has been so successful in the market.  The fact that it is being used by many of the world’s major cruise and ferry lines is testament to its quality manufacture and market leading design features. To reach the milestone of 100,000 units ordered and delivered after just two years is a great achievement.”

Through its expansive European branch network Cosalt is also able to provide customers with comprehensive sales and technical support for all its products. Customers also benefit from having a single pont of contact within Cosalt to handle all their business. From bases in the key European cruise ports, the company can service other cruise ports worldwide, offering everything from the supply, servicing and testing of marine safety and rope products through to the provision of a complete logistics management package.
