Amsterdam Expects Record Calls in 2011

Amsterdam will see its 1,000th call to the Passenger Terminal Amsterdam (PTA) during 2011. AIDASol, arriving on April 15 and leaving on April 16, will be number 1,000.

Amsterdam is also expecting a record number of calls at 123 for the year, breaking its 2008 record of 117. Almost half, 54, are turnarounds. SeaDream Yacht Club is a first this year as is Costa Cruises’ Costa Deliziosa. Other companies turning around are MSC Cruises with the Opera, Celebrity Cruises with the Constellation and Holland America Line with the Prinsendam and Maasdam.

Newcomers to the port in 2011 include the AIDAcara, AIDAsol, Norwegian Sun, Sea Cloud, Hanseatic, Artania, Dawn Princess, Marina and Oceanic (the Peace Boat).

Also, 30 ships will stay overnight, allowing passengers to enjoy candlelight canal tours, a dinner in one Amsterdam’s Michelin star restaurants, a theater performance, or just stroll around in the historic heart of the city.

Total passenger numbers will also be the highest ever at 250,000.
