Due to the current situation in Egypt and Tunisia, Louis Cruises has revised its itineraries for the upcoming 12-night “Eastern Mediterranean Highlights” cruise and the 8-night “Tunis, Malta, Italy” cruise aboard the Louis Majesty. For the “Eastern Mediterranean Highlights” cruise departing on February 20th from Genoa or February 21st from Marseilles, the ports of Alexandria and Port Said in Egypt will be replaced by the Greek ports of Katakolon and Nafplion. The 8-night “Tunis, Malta, Italy” sailing that departs on March 4th from Genoa or March 5th from Marseilles, will replace the Tunis port of call with Katakolon.
Katakolon, home to Greece’s second largest port, is a seaside village on the south-western part of Greece. It is the gateway by sea of famous Ancient Olympia, birth land of the Olympic Games. Here, cruisers can take part in an exciting shore excursion that takes them to explore the famous archaeological site of Olympia with her Temple of Hera, in front of which burns the Olympic Flame during modern day Olympic Games, and the Temple of Zeus then visits the Archaeological Museum of Olympia.
Nafplion is a charming port town in the Peloponnese region of Greece that boasts picturesque streets in the Old Town, featuring venetian balconies and the wonderful neoclassical buildings and mansions. Louis Cruises will offer two shore excursions in Nafplion: Epidaurus & Palamidi where travelers will visit the best-preserved ancient amphitheater in Greece at Epidaurus and experience the sky high Palamidi Fortress for superb views over Nauplia, the sea and the Argolian plain; and Mycenae & Epidaurus, that takes travelers through the famed Lion’s Gate to see Mycenae’s burial chambers where the famous golden mask of Agamemnon was found, then continues along to Epidaurus.
