Dufry Expands its Operations in Guadeloupe

Dufry signed a concession agreement to operate all airside retail space at Guadeloupe Pôle Caraïbes Airport in Pointe-à-Pitre for the next five years. The international airport in Guadeloupe is one of the largest airports in that part of the Caribbean and served almost two million passengers in 2010.

Based on the new contract, Dufry opened on February 2, 2011, a new 500 sqm walk-through shop which includes a full duty free assortment of international products, such as perfumes & cosmetics, liquor, and confectionery, and including a superb selection of local rums and food items. Furthermore, a duty paid Hudson News shop-in-shop is integrated into the retail space, selling a broad range of books, magazines and newspapers as well as non-publication convenience products, like sweets and travel accessories. Domestic passengers can not only buy at Hudson News, but also select from the majority of the assortment in the general store as duty paid products.

Guadeloupe Pôle Caraïbes Airport is the first French Overseas Airport, the 10th largest in France, and one of the biggest of Leewards islands in the Caribbean. In 2010, the airport handled almost 2 million passengers.

Dante Marro, Chief Operating Officer of Dufry Region Europe said: “We are very pleased with the expansion of our presence in the Guadeloupe International Airport, where we had a limited presence in the past. The possibility to manage all the retail space on the airside part of the airport has allowed us to develop the retail space to the latest trends in travel retail. The implementation of a walk-through concept adds greatly to the attractiveness of the commercial area. Also, the combination of a duty free format with the Hudson News concept is further enhancing the concept of cross-selling and it show how innovative ideas can add further synergies and value. Last but not least, this new agreement also re-confirms Dufry’s interest in its presence in Guadeloupe and its leading position in the Caribbean region.”
