Cruise Industry News has learned Pullmantur’s Atlantic Star has been sold to an undisclosed buyer and will be renamed the Mona Lisa II.
The French-built Atlantic Star was launched in 1984. The 46,000-ton vessel is one of the last steam ships remaining, with a passenger capacity of 1,550.
The ship was originally built for Sitmar Cruises as the Fairsky. When Sitmar was purchased by P&O Cruises, she was renamed the Sky Princess. In 2000, she was sent to P&O Australia and renamed the Pacific Sky and sailed there until 2006, when she joined the Pullmantur fleet.
The ex-Sitmar ship has been primarily laid up since 2009, although she did emerge in September of 2010 to fill in for the Pacific Dream when that vessel suffered a mechanical failure.
