Lindblad Expeditions Launches Skills@Sea

Lindblad Expeditions has launched SKILLS@SEA, an adventure learning program that lets guests take advantage of their voyage time and the attention of expert mentors to learn new skills.
Created to appeal to the life learners that are characteristic of Lindblad’s guests, the program was designed to transform an exceptional travel experience into an extraordinary opportunity to learn. Programs may include workshops for Navigation, Travel Writing, Photography, Adobe/Lightroom Photoshop and Stretch Your Mind & Body. Multiple workshop sessions will be held throughout the voyage, which are included in the expedition cost.

SKILLS@SEA will be available on select departures on the National Geographic Explorer beginning with Epic 70°, the 33-day sweeping voyage crossing 70° of Latitude to South Georgia & The Falklands, Tristan da Cunha, St. Helena, Ascension Islands, plus the West African Coast which departs March 7, 2011, and the 16-day An Island Odyssey: Azores, Madeira, Canary & Channel Islands which departs on May 2, 2011.

Workshops and/or experts vary based on the itinerary and include:

Navigation: A beyond-basic course covering the practical aspects of navigating at sea, both historical and modern. At the end of the voyage, guests should have the knowledge and experience to understand and predict the wind direction, the current drift, the precipitation and cloud cover and the level of biological productivity all the way along the course, and in fact, on Epic 70°, over the entire world ocean. Offered on both voyages.

Photography: Learn how to improve shots with our expert team of accomplished pros and skilled tutors including a National Geographic photographer and Lindblad/NatGeo-certified Photo Instructor. Guests will practice in the field, during breakout sessions, with site-specific tutorials on deck, on hikes and during Zodiac forays and will witness and create inspiring slide shows. Offered on both voyages.

Travel Writing: On Epic 70°, National Geographic Traveler Contributing Editor Andrew Evans will lead guests on a writing journey to capture the essence of all the places they will explore. Sessions include how to craft personal travel essays; journaling and blogging; writing more vivid postcards and letters… or finally focusing on the book they have always wanted to publish. Formal instruction will feature lectures and talks, balanced with casual learning opportunities at mealtimes, on deck and at Recap.

Adobe Lightroom/Photoshop: On Epic 70°, photo aficionados will discover what makes the difference between a pro and an amateur shot of the same subject with B&H Photo Video Pro Audio Specialist, Jason Friedman. Learn how to work with Lightroom and Photoshop software to improve images after clicking the shutter; and the tips and tricks pros use to bring images to life – all with the latest photo gear from B&H’s world-class showroom.

Miraval Wellness: The An Island Odyssey expedition will introduce a new association with Miraval Arizona, the top rated destination spa resort in Tuscan focused on healthy and sustainable living. Guests can join the Miraval Specialist on the deck for Morning Yoga, or explore Evening Meditation. Our Miraval Specialist will lead classes such as Breathwork and Mindful Stress Mastery to provide tangible tools to take home and apply to everyday life. Guests may also schedule a private one-one-one session to hone their yoga skills, develop custom stress reduction techniques, or even begin a meditation practic
