Various news agencies are reporting that the August 22 sailing from Malaga has also been cancelled, with passengers offered various refund options or similar sailings on Pullmantur’s Empress.
Sources familiar with the matter suggested the Atlantic Star coming out of lay-up to replace the Pacific Dream for a period of four to six weeks while the engines are repaired. Other reports suggest the ship will be out of service until next year. These reports could not be confirmed.
The Pacific Dream was originally built for Celebrity Cruises, operating as the Horizon from 1990-2005. In 2005 she was transferred to Island cruises as the Island Star and joined Pullmantur as the Pacific Dream in 2009. The Pacific Dream has passenger capacity of 1,875 and is 47,000-tons.
