P&O Cruises Unveils New Salt Grill by Luke Mangan on Pacific Dawn

P&O Cruises has launched its latest ‘Salt Grill by Luke Mangan’ experience onboard its Queensland-based superliner Pacific Dawn in response to passenger demand.

Featuring rich silver and dark blue décor, the restaurant is the second joint venture between the cruise line and renowned Australian chef Luke Mangan.

Passengers will pay a minimal surcharge of $30 a head ($20 for lunch) to dine at Salt Grill, which will feature a menu of Luke Mangan’s classic dishes including favourites such as crab omelet with miso mustard broth and liquorice parfait with lime syrup.

The launch of the new restaurant follows the successful debut of the first ‘Salt Grill by Luke Mangan’ onboard the cruise line’s Sydney-based superliner Pacific Jewel last December.

Ann Sherry, CEO of Carnival Australia, which operates P&O Cruises, said the cruise line was thrilled with passenger response to Luke’s restaurant.

“Salt Grill is packed out every night – our passengers just love the opportunity to experience Luke Mangan’s food and soak up the ambience of his restaurant during their holiday,” Ms Sherry said.

Ms Sherry said P&O Cruises planned to launch a third Salt Grill onboard its latest superliner Pacific Pearl when the ship debuts in December this year.

Speaking on Pacific Dawn, Luke Mangan said he was excited at the growth in the ‘Salt Grill by Luke Mangan’ concept onboard P&O Cruises’ ships.

“Each Salt Grill restaurant will have a few variations but all of them will provide an intimate setting and feature wonderful Australian produce to create a holiday highlight for passengers,” Luke said.

Pacific Dawn’s ‘Salt Grill by Luke Mangan’ will seat 60 people and will offer ocean views as well as a chance to watch the kitchen in action. It will open for dinner every evening and for lunch on sea days.

Ms Sherry described the new restaurant as the “icing on the cake” for Pacific Dawn’s multi-million dollar refurbishment.

The superliner’s refit also included a refurbishment of its main restaurant, The Palm Court. Passengers can now also enjoy a new child-free Oasis retreat overlooking the ship’s wake, while the ship’s spa has been completely refurbished.
