Navalimpianti Davits and Valve Controls for Azura

Navalimpianti has delivered the stored power telescopic davit system for lifeboats and tenders for P&O Cruises’ new Azura, nearing completion at Fincantieri, in addition to a remote valve control system.

The davit system includes 18 stored power davits for lifeboats; six for tenders, and two for rescue boats.

The davit design allows the promenade deck to be open as well as the emergency inboard areas. According to Navalimpianti; this solution is particularly useful when the deck is used as a passenger walking area and also during disembarkation operations.

The hydraulic power to recharge the accumulators and move the davits for 24 lifeboats and two rescue vessels is produced by four hydraulic power packs, which are arranged in four separated rooms, two portside and two on starboard, interconnected longitudinally. The hydraulic power is stored inside one accumulator with a suitable number of nitrogen bottles for each davit. Consequently the necessary power to “abandon the ship” is always available and permits davit extension so that the boats can be fully controlled for lowering at sea fully loaded in all trim and list conditions.

This hydraulic stored power system is independent of any other power supply and also in case of a black out, the davits can be hydraulically extended and the boats lowered.

The remote valve control system is of the “Navalimpianti WINners type” with electro-hydraulic actuators. Each valve is installed with at hydraulic actuator to which a micro electro-hydraulic unit is directly connected. The system architecture is founded on three main technological solutions: electro-hydraulic actuators (ETork & ERam), intelligent unit controller cabinets (WCC) and non-proprietary network based on Lontalk protocol developed by Echelon. The system excludes the need for hydraulic linkages between hydraulic stations and actuators; the connections are only of electrical type and there are no traditional hydraulic power packs. Each actuator, either of linear or rotating type, is equipped with its own micro electro-hydraulic unit which is operated by an electronic control card.

Navalimpianti Tecnimpianti is an international leader in the design and supply of marine equipment for passengers and merchant ships, navy, offshore and mega yachts.
