Port Everglades Welcomes MSC Poesia and Seabourn Odyssey

MSC Cruises’ MSC Poesia and Seabourn Cruise Line’s Seabourn Odyssey arrived at Port Everglades today, making them the first of five new cruise ships to select the South Florida seaport for their winter home.

The 93,300-grt, 2,550-passenger Italian cruise ship is the third and newest ship in MSC Cruises’ Musica-class of ships. The ship is appointed with a spectacular waterfall with bridges in the foyer, a Zen garden in the sushi bar, a serene 13,000 square foot spa, and the latest eco-technology to safeguard the environment, without compromising comfort and luxury. Suites and staterooms are spacious and elegant, most with private balconies. Guests can enjoy a wine tasting bar or casual outdoor Mojito bar and movies under the stars on an immense screen by the pool. And for the kids, the MSC Poesia offers a Stone Age dinosaur-themed play area.

Seabourn Cruise Line’s Seabourn Odyssey, the smallest cruise vessel launched this year worldwide, will also make its U.S. debut at Port Everglades on November 10, 2009. The ultra-luxury cruise ship will sail on its maiden Caribbean voyage on November 14, 2009 and sails on 12- and 14-night Caribbean voyages from Port Everglades through the end of the year. A 108-day World Odyssey voyage starts from Port Everglades on January 5, 2010. The 32,000-grt vessel, built by T. Mariotti of Genoa, Italy, accommodates 450 guests in 225 luxury suites, ninety percent with verandas, offering one of the highest space-per-guest ratios in the industry with highly personalized service. Odyssey features the largest spa on any luxury vessel, four restaurants and a host of luxury amenities. Odyssey is the first of three new vessels Seabourn is building, a 216 percent increase in capacity for the line, with Seabourn Sojourn launching in June 2010 and a third new-build in 2011.

In addition to these two ships, on Friday, November 13, 2009, Port Everglades will welcome Royal Caribbean International’s 5,400-guest Oasis of the Seas, which is the largest and most revolutionary cruise ship in the world. Celebrity Cruise Line’s Celebrity Equinox will make its U.S. debut at Port Everglades on November 19, 2009. And on January 21, 2010, Silversea Cruises will name its 540-guest luxury cruise ship Silver Spirit at Port Everglades.
