Floro Courts More Cruise Business

Norway’s Port of Floro is only expecting three cruise-ship calls this year, but is looking at as many as 30 calls within the next few years.

Our intentions with cruise calls are not to profit at least not for the time being but to have activity during slack time (in the summer). Herring and mackerel exporting have been our mainstay, said Nils Hovland, port manager.

This year, Page and Moy’s Ocean Majesty will be calling two times, as well as Ponant Cruises Le Diamant. Looking forward, we would also like to see Saga, Fred Olsen and Swan Hellenic as well as more German operators like Phoenix Reisen and Peter Deilmann, Hovland said.

The pier can accommodate vessels up to 230 meters in length.

Floro is located not in the fjords, but on the coast, with a myriad of islands outside. It is small and cosy, and the port is situated in the center of town. This makes everything close, Hovland said.
