Sea Cloud Spirit to Sail Med, Caribbean and Central America

Sea Cloud Cruises’ newbuild the Sea Cloud Spirit will sail the Mediterranean, Caribbean and Central America in her first year at sea, according to a company release Wednesday.

An Aug. 29 maiden voyage from Lisbon to Rome kicks off her late summer and early fall in the Mediterranean. Then she makes her way to the Caribbean with a Atlantic crossing in November 2020. She will then spend winter 2021 in the Caribbean, Central America, Florida and Bahamas.

The Sea Cloud Spirit is the third and youngest tall ship in the Hamburg-based Sea Cloud Cruises fleet. She was launched in Vigo, Spain, in November. The 138-meter long three-mast sailing ship will join her sisters, the Sea Cloud and Sea Cloud II.

“Our new build will offer guests the same relaxed atmosphere of a private yacht,” said Sea Cloud Cruises CEO Daniel Schaefer. “She was named Spirit because she will embody the spirit of the original and head of our fleet, the SEA CLOUD, now almost 90 years old.”

As her shipyard stay continues, the Sea Cloud Spirit is still waiting for her three masts to be assembled, which will be approx. 57 meters high. Her slim, white hull is complete. The Sea Cloud Spirit, like her sister ships, will be sailing by hand, offering a real sailing experience for guests, combined with the sophistication of a luxury hotel on board. The new build will have 69 outside cabins, of which 25 will have their own balconies. Special features include a spacious sundeck and spa area, a fitness area with sea views and an additional bistro service on the lido deck.
