Belize Celebrates Maiden Call By MSC Meraviglia

The MSC Meraviglia made her inaugural call at Belize this past week, carrying nearly 4,500 guests, according to the Belize Tourism Board.

Since Nov. 10, the Meraviglia is sailing from Miami, offering two seven-day Western Caribbean itineraries that can be combined into 14-day cruises through April 5, 2020. Ports of call include Ocho Rios, Grand Cayman, Cozumel, Costa Maya, Belize City, Roatan and Ocean Cay MSC Marine Reserve, the cruise lines new private destination in the Bahamas.

MSC Cruises also has the Seaside, Divina and Armonia sailing from Miami this winter season.

According to the tourism board, 2018 was a record breaking year for ship arrivals to Belize with 1,208,137 visitors on 392 port calls.

Cave tubing, visits to Mayan temples, the Belize City tour and snorkeling are said to be the most popular activities among cruise ship visitors.

In addition to MSC Cruises, other frequent callers include ships from Norwegian, Carnival, Royal Caribbean, AIDA, TUI and Princess.

The Meraviglia and the Divina go back to Northern Europe for the summer season, but returns to the Caribbean next winter. The Seaside and the Armonia sail year-round in the Caribbean, with the Armonia moving to Tampa next fall.
