Amera Calls in Constanta

Phoenix Reisen’s Amera called in Constanta, Romania, earlier this week.

The ship docked with 754 passengers and 459 crew aboard, according to a press release. Most guests took part in shore excursions visiting Bucharest and the Danube Delta.

After a period when the tense geopolitical context in the region has kept cruise ships away from the Black Sea, the Amera is the first ocean-going cruise ship to call in Constanta recently. The port, however, has had various river calls.

This year, 21 calls of cruise ships, most of them river ships, have been registered in the passenger terminal of Constanța Port, bringing over 3,000 foreign tourists.

For 2020, the port has registered 10 bookings for passenger ships, of which five have a capacity of 800 to 1,500 passengers, including the Azamara Journey, Aegean Odyssey, Boudicca, Albatros and Crown Iris.

Nine calls are scheduled for 2021, and Crystal Cruises is booked with the Crystal Symphony for 2022, according to a statement from port officials.

As a member of the Board of Directors of MedCruise, Constanta said it oversees responsibility for the Black Sea. In this capacity, together with the ports of Burgas and Varna (Bulgaria) and Odessa (Ukraine), Constanta is promoting the revival of cruise tourism in the Black Sea, according to a statement.
