Port Charlottetown reported a record-breaking cruise season for 2018, bringing just shy of 98,000 passengers and 44,000 crew, according to a statement.

“While there were a number of cancellations due to weather and other factors, the season itself was the best year on record for the port, “ explained Mike Cochrane, CEO of Port Charlottetown. “In addition to a record breaking year, we also hosted our first ever four ship day and a number of inaugurals, welcoming new cruise lines and new ships to Prince Edward Island.”

The inaugural calls from the Silver Wind, Adventure of the Seas, Norwegian Gem, Royal Princess and Star Pride were among the highlights

“We continue to see growth in the cruise market on Prince Edward Island and this is evident by the new calls and new lines visiting our region,” added Corryn Clemence, Business Development Manager for the port. “This is a great opportunity for local operators to showcase Prince Edward Island in its best light to new visitors and possibly welcome them back for repeat visits.”

Next year, projections are grander with 145,000 guests expected and the debut of the MSC Meraviglia.

2020 brings the commissioning of an extended pier, able to berth two megaships at once.
