Queen Mary 2 Ready for Undocking

Finally, after having been docked for 20 days in dry dock  ELBE 17 of  Blohm + Voss Repair, a company of ThyssenKrupp Marine Systems, the QUEEN MARY 2 is planned to be undocked on November 13  as scheduled. The longest ocean liner worldwide is to be undocked with the morning high tide at 3:30 am* (high tide: 4:01 am) to leave for Southampton to start the next transatlantic voyage to New York on November 15, at 5 pm.

After the period at the Hamburg shipyard Blohm + Voss Repair, the QUEEN MARY 2 will be fit for service for another five years. The following work has been carried out:

• Major overhaul of the four propulsion pods in cooperation with the manufacturer Rolls-Royce
• Routine maintenance of the three bow thrusters
• Routine maintenance and inspection of the four stabilizers
• Renewal of brake linings at the windlasses and inspection of electric motors
• Coating of the hull – about 35,000 l of paint have been applied
• Overhaul of 17 lifeboats and tender boats by the manufacturer Schat-Harding
• Cleaning and inspection of various tanks (fuel tanks, fresh water tanks, grey water tanks, black water tanks) by the classification society
• Completion of various classification work such as overhauling the sea valves

* In case of an insufficiently high water level during the morning high tide on November 13, 2008, the QM2 will be undocked during the next high tide in the afternoon at about 4 pm.
