CentrePort Wellington Sees Major Traffic Growth

Located in Wellington, New Zealand, CentrePort is going to turn 80 ship calls this year into 100 next year, with four inaugural visits.

“Our major area of growth comes from the continuously increasing ship size, as well as increasing numbers of visiting vessels,” said Roger Clarke of CentrePort Wellington. “We always aim to ensure our visitors leave with a positive impression and intentions of returning.”

Thus, there is a focus on working with cruise lines to encourage repeat visits, although no incentives are offered.

Maiden calls this coming season include the Norwegian Jewel, Asuka II and Viking Sun, said Clarke.

“We are now looking at options for an alternative cruise terminal for visitors, since the original building was damaged by the earthquake. In the meantime, we continue to provide a shuttle bus that quickly takes passengers to the center of Wellington,” added Clarke.
