San Diego: Taste of the Port

The San Diego waterfront is promising an evening of unlimited food, drinks and spectacular views during its Taste of the Port event on Thursday, September 21, 2017.

Hosted by the Port of San Diego, the event is focused on sustainable cooking with locally-sourced ingredients and fresh fish. This is the second annual event and will feature fare from top waterfront restaurants; a variety of beer, wine and non-alcoholic beverages; live entertainment; a sushi booth; and a live cooking competition during which three of San Diego’s premier chefs face off and battle to be named the 2017 Green Chef of the Bay.

New to Taste of the Port, local fishermen will demonstrate how to filet fish and shuck oysters. San Diego’s commercial fishing industry reels in a variety of seafood that can be purchased at local stores and markets – including the Tuna Harbor Dockside Market on Saturday mornings where local chefs can pick up anything from Ahi and Cal King Crab to Swordfish and Urchin to serve at their restaurants.

“We are proud of the Port of San Diego waterfront and we believe in the safekeeping and environmental care of it – land and sea. Together with our partners and sponsors, this event promotes and encourages sustainable cooking with locally-sourced ingredients to ensure San Diego Bay is and will be a vital resource for years to come,” said Port Chairman Robert “Dukie” Valderrama.

Taste of the Port

In partnership with Cleantech San Diego, Green Love Associated Students at San Diego State University, and Ocean Connectors, Taste of the Port is an opportunity to sample cuisine from around the waterfront and to be part of the Port of San Diego’s progressive sustainability efforts in a fun and enjoyable way.

Taste of the Port is part of the Port of San Diego’s Green Port Month in September – a time to promote sustainability and to increase environmental awareness among San Diego residents and visitors.

In addition to participating port restaurants and regional breweries, sponsors include SDG&E, Celebrity Cruises, ICF International, Republic Services, Tetra Tech, Alaska Airlines, JLL, Bank of America, Dudek, Amec Foster Wheeler, Keyser Marston Associates, Ace Parking, IPS Group, Sullivan Power
