Lindblad Expeditions has cancelled two more sailings on the new National Geographic Quest. The company announced on Friday the July 8 and July 15 sailings aboard the new Quest have been cancelled.
The ship is under construction at Nichols Brothers Boat Builders in Washington.
"The National Geographic Quest was in the process of launching from the shipyard into the sea, stern first. As she began to float, she slid from the launch ramp and one propeller and rudder were grounded and damaged. Divers and surveyors were engaged and it has become clear that full repair requires dry docking the ship to fully evaluate the extent of damage," the company said, in a statement.
"We have decided to cancel the July 8 and July 15 Alaska voyages in order to provide the necessary time to assess and repair the damage, and to give as much notice as possible to our guests and assist them with possible alternatives for their planned holiday. Sven Lindblad will issue a more detailed statement next Tuesday from the shipyard once we have a more specific assessment."
