Viking Valley: A New Experience in Fjord Norway

A new attraction has opened in Gudvangen (field of gods) in Norway, Viking Valley, described by Visit Norway as a new experience in the fjord country.

Replacing a summer Viking market, a permanent village has been built, with the first phase completed by May 31. It is described as a place where visitors can interact with people re-enacting the past in accordance with history.

The village is named Njardarheim, meaning a home dedicated to the Norse god, Njord.

Visit Norway said that visitors can listen to storytelling and gain an understanding of who the Vikings were and where they came from. They can learn firsthand what it was like to be a real Viking; their community, their travels, their boats and how the Viking Age and its teaching have left a deep mark in history and how it still affects our lives today.

There is also a food court featuring various activities as well as food and drinks said to be made in accordance with traditional Viking cuisine. The menu includes soup with bread, sausage, cabbage salad, freshly baked pan bread with salmon or sausage with wild garlic sour cream.
