Burned Plastic Triggers Oasis Evacuation at Aker Yards Finland

A small fire forced workers to temporarily evacuate Royal Caribbean’s Oasis of the Seas, under construction at Aker Yards Finland on Thursday.

The fire was quickly put out and workers returned “after less than one hour,” said Toivo Ilvonen, Aker Yards’ project manager for the ship.

“I wouldn’t even call that a fire. It was some square meter of plastic that burned,” Ilvonen said.

A Royal Caribbean spokeswoman said the line was still trying to confirm the fire when reached by Cruise Industry News on Thursday morning.
