Celebrity Boosts Expedition Capacity 71 Percent

Xpedition

After spending over a decade operating a single ship, quietly, in the Galapagos, Celebrity Cruises made moves and acquired Ocean Adventures in early 2016, including the tour operator’s two small vessels and ultra-important Galapagos permits.

The 90-passenger Xpedition thus has two new fleet makes, the 48-passenger Xperience and 16-passenger Xploration, giving Celebrity’s Galapagos program a 71 percent capacity boost between 2015 and 2017, according to the 2017 Cruise Expedition Market Report.

Early in the year, the company launched a new website dedicated to the three-ship Galapagos program.

The company’s Galapagos program accounts for just under 1 percent of its 2018 capacity.

And another little known fact, a decade ago, the cruise line routinely chartered the Kapitan Khlebnikov for voyages in the Arctic and Antarctic.
