Wilhelmsen Callenberg Flakt Teams up with Halton Marine

Leading marine galley ventilation equipment manufacturer Halton Marine has appointed Wilhelmsen Callenberg Fläkt (fm ABB Fläkt Marine) as its Service Partner for Halton Marine´s range of galley ventilation equipment (hoods & safety dampers) for the US marine market.

Galley ventilation equipment is an essential part of a ship´s Heating, Ventilation and Air Conditioning (HVAC) plant – a field where Wilhelmsen Callenberg Fläkt is a leading player since 1937 with HVAC for new builds, and an aftermarket organization that provides ship owners worldwide with HVAC related services from A to Z, including spares, crew training, turnkey installations, automation and cost-effective HVAC energy conservation solutions.

Halton Marine manufactures state-of-the-art HVAC equipment including a revolutionary filter-free UV light irradiation system for removal of cooking fat from galley hoods. When such a system is retrofitted to a hood, it not only continuously rids the exhaust hood of fat it essentially removes all of the typical residual fat inside galley exhaust duct work at the same time. A typical 0.5 x 0.5m exhaust duct with a 3mm grease layer inside (somewhere along the duct) increases the pressure drop and hence ventilation power consumption by some 5 % – day in and day out. It goes without saying that clean duct work is less of a worry to crew and health & safety authorities than duct work with a thick layer of combustible and energy consuming cooking fat imbedded with particulate matter.

Galleys consume very large quantities of conditioned air and, in contrast to accommodation HVAC, energy recovery is not possible here. This translates to high specific energy consumption for these systems. Consequently, any means of reducing this energy consumption has a substantial impact on the overall HVAC energy savings that can be made.

Cooperation between the two companies is logical in that Halton Marine has the right galley technology and Wilhelmsen Callenberg Fläkt the aftermarket services capability. With the move to team up their experience, competencies and capabilities, the two organizations aim to provide ship owners with faster and more cost-effective service support of Halton Marine´s galley equipment than before.

The Wilhelmsen Callenberg Fläkt Service Center is conveniently located at Wilhelmsen Callenberg Inc´s new premises in Fort Lauderdale, Florida, USA. Wilhelmsen Callenberg Fläkt is part of Wilhelmsen Marine Engineering – the HVAC and electrical/automation arm of Wilhelmsen Maritime Services with the world´s largest maritime service network.
