Costa Maya Reopens with Unveiling of Exciting New Excursion

Costa Maya Reopens with Unveiling of Exciting New Excursion BioMaya Bacalar, a Three-In-One Zip-Line Adventure, Welcomes Guests of All Ages Cancun, Mexico – Costa Maya, Mexico’s fastest growing cruise port and new destination, re-opens its doors with the launch of BioMaya Bacalar, its most exhilarating excursion to date.  Closed since August 2007 due to damages caused by Hurricane Dean, Costa Maya is welcoming cruise ship passengers back to its shores with a unique Mayan-flavored zip-lining adventure that takes guests through the lush jungle of the Yucatan Peninsula.

Offered as a three-part excursion, BioMaya Bacalar greets guests with a symbolic soul-cleansing ritual performed by local Mayans, sending guests off on their zip-lining journey.  After soaring through the Mayan jungle alongside red-winged Macaws, the last platform leaves guests at the edge of the beautiful Bacalar Lagoon, known by locals as the birthplace of the rainbow.  Guests cool off as they float across the calm waters, where the colors vary from light green to turquoise and electric blue.  On the other side of the Bacalar Lagoon, native fruit juices and other Mexican delicacies await guests before they embark on a picturesque trek through the lush local jungle.

BioMaya Bacalar’s four platforms are built on iron towers ranging from 656 feet to 2,559 feet, allowing for some of the tallest jumping platforms available and making this zip line experience one of the most thrilling of its kind!  This zip-line tour is the only one in the world that allows for tandem side-by-side gliding.

“Cruise ship passengers will return to new offerings that capture the uniqueness of Costa Maya and the surrounding region,” says Teofilo Hamui, president and chief executive officer of the Port of Costa Maya.  “BioMaya Bacalar allows guests to experience everything that is great about this region – crystal clear waters, endless vistas of unspoiled jungle and wildlife in its natural habitat.”

Cruise passengers interested in booking this excursion should contact their cruise line directly.

Strategically located just hours from Cancun on Mexico’s southern Yucatan Peninsula, Costa Maya was the Western Caribbean’s first port designed exclusively for the cruise industry. Resembling an ancient Mayan city, Costa Maya is able to accommodate three ships at once, including F3 and Genesis class ships.  Visitors experience a destination that showcases the ancient and colonial heritage of the Mexican Caribbean with all of today’s conveniences.  Set against the deep turquoise sea, Costa Maya is comprised of three grand pavilions, artisan and luxury shopping areas, a beach club, saltwater pools, fine restaurants and bars, and all the resources necessary to explore the area’s surrounding jungle and coral reefs. Costa Maya was named Seatrade Insider’s 2007 Port of the Year.
