Commodore Reroute

In the wake of the antigovernment demonstrations that erupted in Haiti last week, Commodore Cruise Line has cancelled its calls to Cap Haitien, and is temporarily going to St. John instead, according to a spokesperson for the line.

RCCL and Home Lines are still proceeding as usual, although a spokesperson from Home Lines said company executives were still discussing the matter.

The demonstrations have occurred in the northern port city and in scattered provincial areas. No travel advisory has been issued, but the State Department reportedly is recommending that people not travel to Cap Haitien at this time.

The most recent protest took place while RCCL’s Song of Norway was making its first call in Labadee – the island the line developed specifically for its passengers. However, a spokesperson from the line reported that the passengers were unaware of the demonstrations, and that RCCL will go ahead with the official Labadee grand opening festivities it has planned in conjunction with the Haitian government.
