Ocean Acquires Pearl

The 2000 Corporation, the Swiss-based parent company of Ocean Cruise Lines, has acquired Pearl Cruises of Scandinavia from J. Lauritzen A/S of Copenhagen.

Ocean Cruise Lines and Pearl Cruises will continue to operate as independent companies, maintaining corporate headquarters in Fort Lauderdale and San Francisco, respectively. Gerry Herrod, chairman of Ocean, will also assume the chairmanship of Pearl Cruises. Johan H. Paus, president of Pearl for the past four years, will continue in his position; and Bob Iversen, president of Ocean and a director of the 2000 Corporation, will continue in his position.

According to Herrod, “Pearl’s itineraries in the Pacific are a perfect complement to Ocean’s products in Europe, the Caribbean and South America, making us a world-wide operator of yacht-like cruises to unusual destinations.”

Pearl’s 425-passenger MV Pearl of Scandinavia will undergo a $5.4 million refurbishment in Singapore in early 1988, and then resume her cruises to China and the Far East.

Ocean will operate two alternating itineraries to Scandinavia and the Baltic Sea from Copenhagen this summer, aboard the Ocean Islander, and East Coast cruises from Philadelphia aboard the Ocean Princess.

New Fall Itineraries

For the Fall, Ocean has announced five different seven-day sailings from Central Florida, departing October 25 through November 22, aboard the Ocean Princess. Three itineraries to the Panama Canal and South America are offered, from Cape Canaveral to Curacao and between Tampa and Barbados. There are also two cruises between Barbados and Tampa.

The Ocean Islander will resume her seven-day schedule of Southern Caribbean cruises from Barbados.
