Royal Caribbean 1992 Earnings

Royal Caribbean Cruise Line has reported 1992 net income to be $60.6 million on revenues of $1 billion for the year ended January 1, 1993. This compares to net income of $43 million on revenues of $759.6 million for 1991.

Revenues increased 33.3 percent, in part attributable to the 26.3 percent increase in passenger cruise days due to the addition of the 2,354-passenger Majesty of the Seas and Monarch of the Seas in April, 1992 and November, 1991, respectively. RCCL also attributed the increase in revenues to improved yields resulting from the implementation of yield management programs, such as Breakthough Rates; greater economies of scale; and tighter cost controls.

Operating income for 1992 was $138.3 million, compared to $64.1 million in 1991.

Net income for the fourth quarter of 1992 was $7.8 million on revenues of $255.4 million, compared to net income of $2.1 million on revenues of $213.6 million for the same period in 1991. Operating income was $29 million during the fourth quarter of 1992, compared to $20.6 million for the same period in 1991.

Passenger cruise days increased for fiscal year 1992 to 4.84 million, compared to 3.83 million in 1991. For the fourth quarter of 1992, passenger cruise days increased to 1.25 million from 1.15 for the same period in 1991.

While passengers carried during fiscal year 1992 rose to 829,300 from 716,100 in 1991, the number of passengers carried during the fourth quarter of 1992 declined from 212,900 in 1991 to 212,500 in 1992.
