RCCL to BethShip

BethShip will be the site of a major upgrade and refurbishment program of Royal Caribbean Cruise Line’s 1,402-passenger Song of America, Oct. 31-Nov. 8.

At presstime, approximately 35 to 40 percent of the jobs have been assigned to contractors, stated the ship’s technical superintendent Ronnie Westerman, adding that he expects all work to be awarded by the beginning of September.

And, although Westerman would not confirm the cost of the effort, he said, “It will cost more than what we have spent (in the past) for a normal drydocking.”

According to Westerman, “every part of the ship” will receive some work, including the Can Can Lounge, all Deck 7 suites, dining rooms, deck floors, and pool area carpeting.

There will also be technical maintenance of the main stabilizer fin, bow thrusters, and air-conditioning as well as cleaning and painting of the sides and bottom of the vessel.
